In a very short period of time, locals have gone crazy for freakshakes, Doughnut Time and the latest craze of ice cream scrolls. While trends come and go there are only a handful of dessert institutions that have stood the test of time and remained local favourites.

While you could go and embark upon finding the best place for cupcakes, macarons and brownies and spend a fortune in the meantime, Foodi Tours have done all the hard work for you. Your guide will take you from Hyde Park to Darling Harbour with at least six sweet spots along the way. With every stop there will be substantial samples, as well as fun facts about Sydney and even a bit of dessert history.

You may forget that long before Gelato Messina came along, cupcakes were the in thing. Like any trending food, you couldn’t walk down the street without seeing cupcakes everywhere. But any good craze must come to and end and while many closed down, one iconic cupcake store still remains. This award-winning cupcake store will be the first stop on your journey. You can choose standard flavours of chocolate and vanilla or you can be more adventurous with the Lemon Meringue, Cherry Ripe, Peanut Butter, or everyone’s favourite Red Velvet.

While the tour will take you to try the best French macarons and delightful tarts and brownies, the tour is not just about dessert. You will stop off at one of Sydney’s funnest and most colourful lolly shops where you will get plenty of free samples, plus the choice to buy some extras to take home with you.

If you feel like you’ve devoured your weight in cakes and other naughty things, chocolate covered fruit might make you feel slightly better (slightly). You may have tried chocolate covered strawberries and bananas before but have you ever seen chocolate covered figs, mangoes or pineapples? Our personal favourite was the chocolate covered watermelon slice, which is a surprisingly good match and refreshing after all that walking.

Tours are available weekly on Saturdays so book in for yourself or get your sweet tooth friend the best present imaginable. Not just limited to sweet stuff, Foodi does a range of other walking tours around Sydney, with other food themes including dumplings, craft beer and even an amazing food scavenger hunt!
