With rock pools, grassy picnic areas and even a sea-water swimming hole, it’s not a surprise that Austinmer Beach has become a popular destination for beach-goers. Swimmers need not fear entering the ocean as lifeguards patrol the beach between the months of September and April while those not brave enough to take on the waves can always head to the pool.

Set-up on the grassy area to find some shade from that hot summer sun and head to the beach once you’re ready to cool down in the water or want to create a sports tournament of your own – volleyball, cricket, or just a game of frisbee for the whole family to enjoy. There are even change rooms located on the southern end of the beach so you don’t have to leave a sand trail everywhere you go for the rest of the day.

When you’re feeling a bit peckish, a burger from Shelly’s Diner will be sure to satisfy or, if you want to dine in a more fancy style, head to the Austi Beach Cafe for a delicious seafood soiree. The Austi Beach Cafe also doubles as a gelateria with a range of homemade flavours to keep you cool during the summer while the newsagency across from Austinmer Beach sells some classic ice-creams for those preferring a more traditional Aussie dessert.
