The word is out and people are delighted, professionals have unveiled the new and intoxicating path to happiness-bouldering.

Establishing it’s roots amidst the authentic culture of Europe, the concept of the boulder gym has trotted across the globe to land right here on our doorstep, at 9 Degrees. Innovating on previous forms of rock climbing, bouldering has eradicated the need for ropes and harnesses allowing for a much more engaging and adrenaline-inducing experience. Climbers are now able to scale shorter and individually designed walls, protected by a thick and padded floor beneath them. You now have the freedom to climb at your own pace, with your own methods and the best part is, anyone can do it. As the only boulder gym in Sydney, 9 Degrees is quickly becoming home for many Sydney-siders and their families. As a means of relieving yourself from those post work-day blues throughout the week or engaging in a family-friendly activity on the weekends, this form of contemporary climbing will be sure to leave you with a smile upon your face.

A total of nine colours signifying the different levels of difficulty will be sure to challenge you both physically and mentally in every degree (there’s no need to question where the name came from). You can start with yellow as your easiest course and slowly progress through to green, then blue and so on, until the hardest course of white – but that’s best saved for the pros. If you aren’t already excited, every week the courses are redesigned and laid out setting you up for a brand new week of climbing, keeping you on your toes and challenging you in totally different ways. Not only will you develop a sense of accomplishment after each course, but you will be entering a new social arena for meeting and engaging with other climbers and fitness enthusiasts alike.

Bouldering is so simple that you don’t need any instructions or classes to get started. Though, for those that want a little boost of confidence, there are free introduction classes every Monday night offering extra hints and advice to get you started. Otherwise, you can walk in as soon as they open then come and go as you please. As a little side note, students receive added discounts on Fridays, paying only ten dollars for hours and hours of uninterrupted climbing. Of course, coffee and climbing go hand in hand, or maybe a pint of craft beer from the brewery down the road where all 9 degrees customers can enjoy a discount on their purchases. Yes, you will be physically exhausted after scaling those walls, but nothing beats a good climb that will push your body to the limits. Need we say more?
